Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) wants to know why former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn lied to Vice President Mike Pence.
The Arizona senator said Wednesday he is sending a list of questions to the White House to try to uncover how and why Flynn misled Pence about conversations he had with Russia’s ambassador to the U.S.
“First we need to ask questions and get answers and then decide” what’s next, McCain said, according to Politico. “We will be doing that.”
Pence and other officials had previously denied that Flynn ever talked sanctions with the Russian envoy, and the vice president was reportedly angered that Flynn misled him about the conversations.
Nearly a dozen Democratic senators are calling for an independent special counsel to investigate, sending a letter Tuesday to Attorney General Jeff Sessions saying that “an independent investigation is now necessary to determine what General Flynn did, who knew about it and when.”
